Can you smell it?
July 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment
As the days steadily depletes from your holiday reserves, can you smell the sweet beckoning scent of the campus calling out to you? Not that its a bad thing, I know of some who can’t wait for the new semester to start. New modules, new faces, new adventures. What exciting challenges await in the days to come.
The constant cheering and hollering which can be heard all over campus indicates that orientation camps are taking place. It is always nice to see young enthusiastic undergrads rah-rah-ing (did you know this term evolved from hurrah) and having a blast going through their rites of passage.
Shout out to the students from Psychology that came into the Career Centre to find out about our workshops in order to clear their ‘Amazing Race’, hope to see you guys again when term starts.

Heavyhearted Goodbyes and Warm Hellos
June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment
The centre and the rest of OSA was treated to a scrumptious spread for lunch today! Its to celebrate the disembarkation of our dear Ms Wong Sing Chee, who has founded and headed the NUSCC till late last year. Ms Wong is leaving the centre for greater things to come in her life.
Where ever your travels may take you Ms Wong, take comfort that you will be in our thoughts, and a part of us however small, will always be with you in your journeys ahead.
On a lighter note, the lunch was also to welcome all the newbies within OSA, bulk of which comes from NUSCC. The whole affair was light hearted and good food is always a good thing to have, Dean and Vice Dean came round to mingle with us and we all had to put on our best behavior a good chat with the dynamic duo.
Of course I was running around snapping up pictures, the unofficial paparazzi of NUSCC, I managed to capture quite a few gems (look out for the hug from Vice Dean to Ms Wong) before the event came to an end and everyone headed back to their hole to finish up their day.

I Say? U Say?

Did you know NUS has 35 lecture theatres but you can never find LT35?
This is just one of the things I learned while we met up with the creative people and our student writers. Once again, I have forgotten to bring my camera along to snap away at unsuspecting subjects (I promise to have more pictures in the future!).
You must be wondering right now… what the meeting was about. We at OSA are coming up with our very own quarterly magazine! Isn’t that exciting? I’ve taken a look at the overall design, it was very professionally done and very upbeat, design wise, and we have employed the help of student writers to help us pen the articles so you can be assured that the content is by students for students.
Besides interesting sections such as follow ups on events going on around the campus, we also have various articles contributed by the different department from OSA, needless to say, you can expect some useful advice from the Career Centre’s articles and many other tips and tricks from other departments to help you along in your campus life right here in NUS.
So there you have it, our very own glistening magazine for your reading pleasure, another thing to watch out for this coming semester. If you have any suggestion on what or who to feature in the magazine do give us some feedback after reading the magazine, all comments and suggestions are most welcome.
By now, you must be wondering what in the world the title of the magazine is. Well, find out for yourself this coming July.

New Faces

And so the story goes, the NUS Career Centre has added a whole bunch of new people ranging from Career Advisors to Marcomm Exec, and like all ’fresh meat’, they must go for orientation as well (and you think only students have orientation camps); but of course, its not an over-night orientation camp, just a walk around the neighbourhood to familiarise themselves with the various OSA (for the uninitiated, Office of Student Affairs) departments and to allow the other OSA colleagues to meet the new blood.
Here are some photos of the NUSCC staff having fun with the other OSA colleagues:

Radio Pulze
June 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Just had a good chat with the people from Radio Pulze, the on-campus radio station (the one and only) that started all the way back in 2002, and realised that they actually have quite a variety of services available and are doing some seriously interesting stuff.
Collaborations are definitely in talks right now and we here at Career Centre look forward to this breathe of fresh air as the hatching of the next semester is round the bend. So probably next semester, you can look forward to informative, bite-sized advice right from the comfort of a speaker near you.
“I wanted to build a powerful Radio for NUS.. Emotion connects.. Music connects.. Music has no boundaries.. Words touch souls.. I wanted an NUS home!” -Daowei, Founder & Alumni President
